Wow, what a fantastic start Year 1 have made to the school year. Here is some of our amazing learning:
English:
As part of our English learning, we have been looking at the books, How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth, Funnybones and Avocado Baby. The children have been writing lists, labels and captions using pictures from these stories as inspiration.

Maths:
In our maths learning, we have been representing numbers to 10, counting forwards and backwards, finding one more and one less than a given number and learning to use part whole models. We have used lots of resources to help us such as number lines, counters, blocks and tens frames.

Science:
This half term, in science we have been learning to identify the different parts of the human body. We have also learnt to identify our 5 senses and the body parts associated with each sense. The children were given an opportunity to identify different sounds and images and explore their sense of taste, smell and touch.

History:
In History, we have been learning about the terms ‘past’ and ‘present’, ‘old’ and ‘new’. The children discussed what is meant by the past and we discussed events both within their lifetime and before they were born, which happened in the past. We have also sorted toys and everyday objects, identifying whether they are old or new.

PE:
We have been extremely lucky this half term to have a football coach from Alvechurch Football Club leading our PE lessons. We have been learning how to control a ball and beginning to introduce small games.
