Spring 1 - Restless Romans

A start to our Roman topic

We have been reading lots of books about the Romans as well as a book from the author Michael Morpurgo

In English we have been writing descriptive settings using expanded noun phrases and subordinate clauses.

STAR WRITE - the children have wowed us with their writing ***

In topic we have been learning how the Roman invasion spread across Europe as well as the features of a Roman soldiers clothing.

Art and music - our focus in art is sculpture, we have been looking at famous sculptures around the world. We will be making our own sculpture using clay linked to our topic on the Romans. We have been researching Roman pottery and will be designing and making our own. In music we have been learning to read notes, so far we have looked at crotchets and quavers (not the type you eat).

This week (week 6) we have had a wonderful time creating our very own Roman pottery. We came across a few challenges when some of our clay wouldn't bond but we persevered and the end results are fantastic.

In RE we have been creating our own artwork showing the Holy Trinity

ROMAN DAY - The children have had an amazing day celebrating ancient Rome. Their costumes have been brilliant and their creativity has been fantastic. We started our day with a Roman march then followed by mini battles against the Celts and the Romans. Before lunch we created our very own menus for a Roman feast. After lunch we showcased our projects and painted our Roman pottery. We created our very own headbands and finished the day with tasting bread, olives and oil which we learnt was a popular food in Roman times.

Together we: Dream, believe, achieve and succeed
