The Daughter and the Dynasty
During this topic, we have explored The Shang Dynasty. Our focus text in reading and writing is The Firework Maker's Daughter by Phillip Pullman.
We have learnt about the hierarchy within The Shang Dynasty and the way that each level of the hierarchy was treated. We also explored oracle bones and their significance. The children enjoyed learning about Fu Hao, a priestess and military general whose tomb was the only tomb discovered intact, which has enabled us to learn lots about The Shang Dynasty.
As our 'marvellous middle', the children created their own oracle bones using clay!
For our fabulous finale, the children interpreted Chinese language found on oracle bones and then used this information to explore the area and follow an orienteering route.
We also had lots of fun bell boating!
We also had the BEST time on the residential!
