Topic 1 - London's Burning

English

We have had an amazing first week back at school. The children have settled well into Year 2 and have enjoyed learning about our new topic, 'London's Burning'.

In English we have introduced the children to a new book called, 'The Baker's Boy and The Great Fire of London'. We have read some extracts from this story and have looked closely at some exciting vocabulary.

In some of our first lessons we went back through the letters of the alphabet to make sure we are all forming our capital letters correctly and using them to start our sentences. Over the next few weeks we will be learning to write a setting description.

Maths

In Maths the children have been learning to count and order numbers up to 100. We have looked at images of different number representations and have counted how many tens and ones the number has before writing it in numerals and words. We have also looked at which numbers come before and after.

Enrichment Opportunities and Topic

Our children were thrilled when we showed them some exciting artefacts from 1666! We even travelled back in time to figure out what these items were used for. We came across a leather bucket, a large helmet, some cheese and a diary, among lots of other items. We are looking forward to working as detectives to figure out what happened all those years ago.
